David P. Thompson is an associate professor of educational leadership and policy studies in the College of Education and Human Development at The University of Texas at San Antonio.  He received his Ph.D. in educational administration from Texas A&M University in 1993. His professional interests include job satisfaction and motivation, quantitative research methods, school law, and the assistant principalship.

Immediately prior to his appointment at UTSA, Dr. Thompson was associate professor and head of the department of educational administration at Texas A&M University-Commerce, where he had been on the faculty since 1994. Prior to entering higher education, Dr. Thompson was an assistant principal at Westfield High School in the Spring (Texas) Independent School District. In addition, he has been a public school mathematics teacher and golf coach.

For his doctoral dissertation titled "Job Satisfaction: A Synthesis of Research in the Educational Administration Quarterly," Dr. Thompson received the outstanding dissertation awards in 1994 from both Division A of the American Educational Research Association and the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration.

Dr. Thompson, who is a member of the Authors' Committee of West's Education Law Reporter and co-editor of the School Law Reporter published by the Education Law Association,  was president of the Texas Professors of Educational Administration in 1997-98 and served chair of the Law and Education SIG of the American Educational Research Association in 2000-2001.
