

Gerald A. Juhnke, Ed.D., LPC, NCC, MAC, CCAS, ACS

Dr. Juhnke is the Director of
the Counselor Education and Supervision Doctoral Program at The University of
Texas at
Dr. Juhnke is a former
President of The International Association for Addictions and Offender
Counseling and a former President of The Association for Assessment in Counseling. He served as Editor of The Journal for Addictions & Offender
Counseling from 1995 to 1998 and is a current member of The JAOC Editorial Review Board. Dr. Juhnke also served as Co-Chair of The American
Counseling Association’s Council of Journal Editors.
Dr. Juhnke’s most recent book
was co-edited with Dr. Virginia Kelly.
The book is titled, “Critical Incidents in Addictions Counseling” and was
published by ACA Press in 2005. He has authored two previous books, ”Substance
Abuse Assessment: A Handbook For Mental
Health Professionals” and ”
In 2003 Dr. Juhnke was the
recipient of two national research awards including the American Counseling
Association’s Ralph F.
Berdie Research Award and The
International Association of Addictions and Offenders Counselors’ Journal
of Addictions & Offender Research Award. Dr. Juhnke’s three clinical
and research strands: addictions
counseling and assessment, marriage and family counseling, and life-threatening
behaviors (i.e., violence and suicide) coalesce into his research agenda.

Dr. Juhnke has a number of grant, research, and scholarly projects recently completed or underway with UTSA faculty and students. For example, Dr. Juhnke, Dr. Coll, and doctoral student Scott Peters completed and submitted an interview with Dr. Frank Miller of the SASSI Institute. Drs. Juhnke, Thelma Duffey, and Marcheta Evans are gathering research data related to faculty relocation. Concomitantly, Dr. Juhnke is investigating counselor education department chair demographics and leadership training with Drs. Marcheta Evans, Ken Coll, Bryce Hagedorn, Alan Hovestadt, and Virginia Kelly, along with Dr. Juhnke's graduate research assistant and doctoral student Ms. Sally Chilson.
